We seek top-quality, exclusive articles and case studies, accompanied by high-resolution photos and/or illustrations, for each issue of New Zealand Construction News. Preference is given to articles relating to New Zealand projects, products and/or services, or those projects overseas involving New Zealanders and New Zealand-sourced products and services.
An article is far more likely to be accepted if it discusses a company’s products/services from the point of view of a third party – how that product/service has resolved an issue or problem for a third party, the benefits and solutions it has provided, and the overall results. Articles that overtly promote a company’s products/services, or are highly technical or rich in product specs, will not be considered.
Editorial should be sent as a Word document, with images sent as separate attachments (not embedded in the Word document or main body of the email) with preferred captions for each photo. Images must be of good quality, in focus and taken at a high resolution – ideally 300 dpi. We cannot reproduce images that have been downsized for email or web purposes.
We welcome material from commercial sources. Potential contributors should contact the editor in the first instance to discuss their article.

FAQ ABOUT EDITORIAL
1. What is editorial?
Editorial comprises the written words – articles, stories, feature pieces – that fill the pages of a magazine. They’re the reason why subscribers choose to read the magazine – to be informed and educated about issues within the industry.
True ‘editorial’ is commissioned by the editor whose aim is to balance and manage content with the long-term aims and mission statement of the magazine. Whilst an article may discuss a particular company’s products or services, it is independently written by a third party and explains the solutions that the products and/or services provide.
2. How does ‘editorial’ differ to ‘advertorial’?
‘Advertorial’ is an article which has been supplied by an advertiser, but is written in the magazine’s style with a ‘journalistic’ slant (often written in the third person) and formatted to look like editorial. However, too much ‘advertorial’ content detracts from the overall appeal of the magazine – it becomes a sales brochure instead of an informative read. For this reason, the editor limits the space available for ‘advertorial’.
3. What do you mean by ‘third person’?
An article is written in the ‘third person’ when it’s written from the point of view of someone else. It is more formal and suggests objectivity. Imagine someone writing about your company and your products and how they would describe them – they would use ‘he’, ‘she’, ‘it’ and ‘they’.
4. Does it cost anything to submit editorial?
No. Trade magazines rely largely on content supplied by those within the industry.
5. Will the editor change my article in any way?
We reserve the right to edit material to suit the magazine’s style in terms of formatting and to fit the space available. We can provide a draft of the layout prior to going to print if requested.
